Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and Bahamas leaders broke ground on a cruise pier at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas. Great Stirrup Cay is a 270-acre oasis offering white sand beaches and crystal blue waters in an authentic and luxurious Bahamian atmosphere, as well as an abundance of activities. As a part of The Norwegian Edge program, Great Stirrup Cay has received many exciting enhancements including new dining venues, upgraded oceanfront bars and enhanced beach cabanas. The new Silver Cove, launched in 2019, offers guests an exclusive private retreat amidst the beauty of this private island experience.

With this new enhancement, the island will allow two large ships to dock simultaneously. The private island will be serving three brands. The pier will enhance ship accessibility for Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Pitching in at the groundbreaking were Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, NCLH leadership including CEO Harry Sommer and David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line and local dignitaries and stakeholders. NCLH called it a 'transformational investment'. As part of this development, the company is dedicating more than $45,000 in 2025 to educational programs, including scholarships, internships, and field enhancements, benefiting local communities, and fostering long-term growth.

Along with the debut of the new multi-ship pier later this year, guests will step ashore and be greeted by an engaging welcome center and a convenient new tram service that will provide an effortless way to get around the island and speed right into vacation mode. The island’s development plans also include extending guest-favorite onboard experiences to Great Stirrup Cay. The island will feature a new Vibe Beach Club, the adults-only outdoor lounge with private cabanas, loungers and other upgraded amenities, as well as Horizon Park, the all-new recreational area which recently debuted on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway that provides lawn style games and a place to gather for the whole family. To continue the authentic beachside Bahamian vibe the island is known for, a new relaxation area will come to life with swaying hammocks perfect for an afternoon nap, as well as other Tiki-inspired amenities and experiences yet to be revealed.
