Amanpuri - "place of peace"

Hotels & Resorts

May 10, 2010

Amanpuri is a Sanskrit word meaning "place of peace". Amanpuri is also the name of the original Amanresorts property in Phuket, Thailand's largest island. We arrived here after travelling +24 hours from Toronto on Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong. This is the first stop of our Amanresorts Asia experience.

Amanpuri looks out over the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. The resort features over 40 Thai-styled pavilions and 30 private villa homes well on a coconut grove peninsula. Each pavilion includes a large bedroom and an outdoor "sala" or living space on a sun deck connected by elevated walkways to the resort's facilities. Accommodation rates are determined by view and by season. Even the view from the glass-enclosed hill top gymnasium is spectacular!

What's there to do here? Nothing and everything including soaking up the sun on a beautiful crescent-shaped beach, choice of swimming pools, tennis, golf and or course the Aman Spa. There's also a fleet of 20 cruisers and sailing craft to explore Phang Nga Bay. Dining includes the outdoor Terrace featuring thai specialties and the indoor Restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine. Khanom Krok or tea is served each day with traditional Thai desserts by the pool.

Amanpuri is spectacular and although we're only here for a couple of nights the best time to come is between December and April. This is a Virtuoso Best of the Best resort so contact your Vision 2000 travel advisor today for the best value at this or any of the Amanresorts.
